Veterinary Science soars in global rankings

Veterinary Science at Te Kunenga ki Pūrehuroa Massey University has consistently received a high world ranking in the annually released list, and 2024 is no exception. After being placed 28th globally in 2023, the subject has risen seven spots this year to be ranked 21st globally and first in Australasia.

Head of Tāwharau Ora School of Veterinary Science Professor Jon Huxley says the rise is a testament to the quality of teaching and the exceptional facilities available to veterinary science students who choose to study at Massey.

“I am delighted that Massey is now the most highly-ranked veterinary school in Australasia and Asia in the QS Subject Ranking. That is a fantastic achievement for our whole community, and represents the dedication and enthusiasm of our students, graduates and staff over a concerted period of time.”

Massey’s other subject that has received a global top 30 ranking, Development Studies, has a similar sustained recognition of excellence, having also ranked in the top 30 in 2023.

Professor of Development Studies Regina Scheyvens says, “It’s an honour to be in the top 30 of Development Studies programmes globally!  We are a small but super-dedicated team who are passionate about teaching and researching a subject which we hope contributes to a more socially just and sustainable world.”

Agriculture and Forestry and Communication and Media Studies join Veterinary Science and Development Studies in being ranked in the top 100 globally in their subjects. Art and Design, Nursing and Architecture/Built Environment are in the top 150, while Geography and Accounting and Finance are in the top 200.

A total of 19 subjects have received a ranking overall.

Provost Professor Giselle Byrnes says the university’s continued performance in the QS subject rankings is great to see.

The 2024 QS World University Rankings examined 4982 universities in 149 countries across 55 subjects and five broad faculty areas. Universities are evaluated according to five metrics: academic reputation, employer reputation, citations per paper, H-index and International Research Network.
